FAQs

The basic and orientation examinations (GOP) are often taken during the Bachelor's degree programme, especially in the first semesters.
They are intended to ensure that students have acquired the basic knowledge in their field of study that is necessary to successfully continue their studies and thus reduce the risk of dropping out.

In most degree programmes, they are a prerequisite for progressing to the main study programme.

An overview of the basic and orientation examinations of a degree programme can always be found in the respective study and examination regulations.

Please note: If the deadlines for the basic and orientation examinations specified in the respective study and examination regulations are not met or exceeded, the examinations not yet taken are deemed to have been failed for the first time.

  • Exam registration and cancellation

Exam registration takes place during the official registration period via Primuss (please note the information e-mail from the study centre).
It is possible to withdraw from an examination in accordance with the regulations up to the eighth day before the examination. The system is blocked from the seventh day before the examination.

Please note: ‘If there is no effective withdrawal after this date and the student has missed the examination for reasons for which he/she is responsible, the grade “fail” is to be awarded’.

  • Deadlines and dates for basic and orientation examinations / re-examinations

If basic and orientation examinations are not taken for the first time in the required semester as specified in the respective study and examination regulations, the examinations not yet taken are deemed to have been failed for the first time (i.e. the examination is automatically graded with a five). This marks the start of the repeat examination process.

From the winter semester 2024/25, the first repeat examination (second attempt) will generally take place after a maximum of twelve months (= after two semesters).
The second resit examination (third attempt) must be taken within a period of six months (= after one semester) after the result of the assessment of the previous resit examination has been announced.

Please note: There is no automatic exam registration. The examination must be registered for during the regular registration period. If the examination is not retaken on time, a 5.0 (= five within the deadline) is automatically awarded.

Even if not all examinations have been taken for the first time at the end of the standard period of study, a grade of 5.0 will be awarded (= five within the deadline)!

  • Illness

If you fall ill after the cancellation period of a registered examination, a medical certificate is required.  Only the following certificate may be accepted: Certificate

The medical certificate must be issued by a doctor on the day of the examination at the latest. The original of this certificate must be submitted to the Study Centre within three working days (Mon-Fri) of the examination. If another certificate or the certificate is submitted late, a grade of 5.0N (administrative five) will be awarded.

See university law: Framework Examination Regulations of the Bavarian Universities (RaPO), General Examination Regulations (APO) of the THD, Study and Examination Regulations of the respective degree programme.

We recommend all students who have to take a third attempt to make a precautionary application (= safety application) for an alternative degree programme (taking into account the respective application deadlines) at DIT and possibly at other universities.

Ideally, it should be a similar degree programme so that, if the worst comes to the worst, examination results that have already been passed can be credited in order to enter a higher semester straight away.

Please note:
If you are exmatriculated due to a failed third attempt, it is no longer possible to re-enrol on the same degree programme at DIT or, as a rule, at another university within Bavaria.
If you have failed to apply for an alternative degree programme in the following semester, exmatriculation means that you will have to wait for the next application phase before you can continue your studies.
This phase usually corresponds to one semester.

It is possible to apply for the first and a higher semester of a degree programme at the same time. The examination board decides on admission to a higher semester. Please note that you must complete a separate application form for each application.

A third attempt is a considerable burden! Take advantage of our psychosocial counselling service for exam coaching.

In addition to personal counselling at the ZSB, we strongly recommend that you talk to the relevant student advisor.

If necessary, contact your BAföG office to clarify whether you can continue to receive BAföG despite changing your degree programme or university.

The same degree programme can no longer be studied at DIT or, as a rule, at another university within Bavaria.

It is possible to apply in parallel for the first semester and for a higher semester for other degree programmes (within the application deadline) at DIT.

If you would like to change to a degree programme at another university, please contact the university of your choice directly to find out whether a change is possible.

If you have not sent a security application during the application deadlines, enquire at DIT or at other universities about an extended application deadline.

Inform the BAföG office, child benefit office, your health insurance and employment agency.

A change of study programme at DIT is generally possible. A timely online application is required.

Admission for first-semester students takes place as part of the respective selection procedure.

Admission for higher semesters is only possible if places are available and the requirements of the respective study and examination regulations are met.

Previous study and examination achievements can be recognised as far as possible after review.

Changing universities in Bavaria is no problem with regard to the course of study and examination regulations in the same degree programme.

However, a prerequisite is a timely application for enrolment or admission at the receiving university and de-registration at the previous university.

Transferring from a Bavarian university to a non-Bavarian university or vice versa can be somewhat more complicated. In addition to the recognition of the university entrance qualification, the recognition of study periods and examinations already taken can also cause difficulties due to the different curricula and examination regulations.

Graduates of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology are entitled to transfer to a university, art college or comprehensive university without restriction to a specialisation after passing the Bachelor's examination.

The individual requirements for enrolment in a subject area at the university in question remain unaffected.
