Pioneering & Vibrant

Job Shadowing.

How Companies can Benefit

After graduation, you all had to decide which career path to take. Give students the opportunity to get to know your everyday working life and your company - compact and informative in one day. With Job Shadowing, a service offered by DIT alumni, you can accompany and support students on their way to choosing a career.

In short: With the help of a data sheet we create a public profile. Every semester our team advertises the Job Shadowing Program to students. After receiving the applications, you choose a student, run the program and give us feedback.

The TH Deggendorf offers the platform for the program. All company representatives are presented anonymously on the Job Shadowing website. The basis for the presentation is a uniform question mask in which your company and work area is briefly described.

The program itself requires little preparation in the day's schedule, as it is important that students get to know a very real working day.
The Job Shadowing not only offers alumni the chance to stay in touch with their alma mater, but is also an excellent opportunity to get to know students at the university and present themselves to you as a company. Possibly there will be an extended cooperation in an internship, part-time job, working student position, thesis or even through a job offer. In this way both sides profit from this exchange.

It does not require a large organisation for Job Shadowing Day. Here are a few ideas, though:

After a short introduction, students will benefit from your experience. What is their professional background? What tips can you give to the Shadows? Also ask the students about their ambitions and career aspirations.

With a short tour through your company and the department, the student will get to know your circle of friends. Afterwards the "Shadowing" can continue. If you write e-mails and make phone calls for a while, let them look over your shoulder. To bridge the gap, company reports, newsletters or information material can also give a good impression.

You have a meeting or business meeting? Excellent, these experiences are valuable for the students. Perhaps you also have a concrete task in which the Job Shadow can support you.

During a lunch with your colleagues, the Job Shadow will have the chance to have further discussions. Perhaps there will also be a meeting with employees from other areas of work.

At the end of the meeting, there will be a final discussion for a review and possible open questions. Did you enjoy it? Let your shadow know. Maybe there will be opportunities for future cooperation.

Just on the verge. It will be a different working day for you, but the point of the Job Shadowing is that the students can observe you in your sphere of activity. Assume that you can work half a day and plan the rest for supervision.

  • You get to know committed students and potential junior staff
  •  You present yourself and your company as an attractive employer
  • You learn in direct exchange how students perceive your company
  • You share your experiences and thus also develop your personal skills and leadership qualities
  • They continue to expand their network to DIT
  • You will achieve an exchange with the students and perhaps also gain new insights and suggestions for your work design
  • They contribute to making DITstudies even more practice-oriented
  • They do not require much preparation, as the students only look into the work processes for a short time
