You are welcome to apply for several courses of study. The online application must be filled out individually for each course of study and the relevant documents must be enclosed. References to other applications for admission or previous applications cannot be considered.

 

 

All students are charged a student union fee of €72 per semester (the academic year consists of 2 semesters per year).

In addition to this, administration and support fees will be charged to international applicants starting with the application period for the winter semester 2025/2026, and for international enrolled students starting in the winter semester 2025/2026 onwards: find out more about DIT student services that are financed by these fees. These are in accordance with the DIT's fee regulations (currently only available in German). These fees are:

  • €50 application fee for the application to every degree programme at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, plus
  • €500 DIT semester fee per semester for enrolled students (the academic year consists of two semesters)

The application and semester fees does not apply to all international applicants and students. No fees are charged for:

  • Students that are already enrolled prior to the fees regulations coming into force, 15 April 2023
  • There are further exceptions which are be examined as individual cases

 

 

Hardship case applications allow a small number of students direct admission when exceptional hardship is proven to exist.

Exceptional hardship is deemed to exist if the applicant has an exceptional situation where social, health or family reasons make immediate admission to the course of study imperative and an unsuccessful application would create additional problems so that the applicant couldn't be expected to wait even one year for admission. Bavarian universities keep 2% of the study places free for so-called hardship cases, therefore applications are only considered for a few applicants.

Hardship must be proven by appropriate evidence (e.g. medical certificate, birth and death certificate, school education report, etc.). The application and the supporting documents for the winter semester must be submitted in full by 15.07.  summer semester by 15.01. at the latest.

Reasoned applications:

Special health circumstances of the applicant which require immediate admission:

  • Applicant suffers from an illness with a tendency to aggravate, which in all probability will lead to a situation in the future in which it will not be possible to endure the stresses and strains of the course of study through expert medical opinion*
  • Applicant has to give up his previous studies or his previous profession for health reasons; a meaningful bridging of the waiting period is not possible for him for these reasons, through specialist medical opinion*
  • Applicant is physically handicapped; due to his or her handicap, he or she is either unable to perform any other reasonable activity until the allocation of a study place or is unreasonably disadvantaged in comparison to non-handicapped applicants in the event of a further referral to the waiting period. This must be proven through a specialist medical opinion*

*Expert medical opinion must contain statements on the origin, severity, course and treatment options of the injury or illness as well as a prognosis of the future course of the disease. Suitable additional proof is, for example, the severely disabled person's ID card, a notice of assessment from the pension office or a notice of withdrawal from service in the Bundeswehr.

  • Severe economic hardship of the applicant, but only in conjunction with health problems and/or family or social circumstances
  • Special family or social circumstances of the applicant which require immediate admission acompanied with documents suitable for proof
  • Applicant has received course admission in a previous semester, but could not start studies due to reasons for which he/she is not responsible, especially illness. Proof of the compelling reason and previous notification of admission will be required for a hardship application

Unsubstantiated applications that are generally unsuccessful:

  • Home care and support of existing illness
  • Previous studies or profession that had to be abandoned for health reasons; however, it is possible and reasonable to bridge the admissions waiting period
  • Studies that cannot be privately funded
  • Future discontinuation of private financing of studies if the start of studies is delayed
  • The financing of the course of study is limited (e.g. inheritance contract, orphan's allowance or Bundeswehr pension); it is no longer secured for the course if admission is delayed
  • Applicant is married or has one child
  • Father or mother or both parents are ill or severely disabled
  • Origin from a large family; siblings are still in education
  • Applicant is orphan or half-orphan

 

Master craftsmen, technicians and the professionally qualified can study even without a school-based university entrance qualification at a university or university of applied sciences.

Qualified professionals without a school-based university entrance qualification, but with two years of training and three years of work experience, are granted subject-related access. Their field of study must correspond approximately to their previous professional specialisation. For further information, please refer to the current admission requirements.
 

Information for master craftsmen, technicians, business administrators and similarly qualified persons:

The consultation

The admission requirement is a counselling interview (ideally at the university named on position 1 in the application) with a student advisor of the intended study programme. The written confirmation of this counselling interview must be enclosed with the application at the respective university or submitted by 27.07. for the winter semester at the latest (summer semester by 15.01). The counselling interview certified by a Bavarian university will be recognised by another university, provided that it is a closely related course of study.

In this interview, the applicant should be given a realistic impression of the course contents, structure and requirements of the intended course of study, possibly also of an existing university entrance examination. The aim of the interview is to enable the applicant to critically assess whether he/she will be able to meet the requirements of a course of study based on his/her previous knowledge.

Furthermore, the possibilities of specific preparation for a course of study in Bavaria should be pointed out:

  • Vocational High School
  • College
  • Evening High School
  • Virtual professional school
  • Telecollege
  • Supplementary examination for the acquisition of the advanced technical college entrance qualification

The approval

Master craftsmen, technicians, business administrators and similarly qualified as well as qualified professionals are admitted without restriction in study courses without restrictions like all applicants. In the so-called NC courses of study (courses of study with restrictions), master craftsmen and qualified professionals are admitted within an advance quota of 5%. Within this quota, 4% is allocated to the admission of master craftsmen and similarly qualified persons and 1% to the admission of qualified professionals. The following certificates obtained in Bavaria or in Germany are decisive for admission:

  • Certificate of successful completion of the master craftsman examination in accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code or
  • Certificate of successful completion of the advanced vocational training examination, which is deemed by the State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs to be equivalent to the examination for master craftsman's diploma and which is taken in accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code, or
  • Certificate of successful completion of the final examination at a public or state-recognised technical college or academy
  • A qualification equivalent to these certificates within the meaning of the Seafarer's Act
  • A qualification equivalent to these certificates from a training scheme under Land law for professions in the health care sector and in the field of social care and social education professions

Professions acquired abroad are only considered as proof if they are recognised by the university as equivalent to the above-mentioned German certificates in the admission and enrolment procedure. In case of doubt, the competent authority in accordance with § 71 of the Vocational Training Act in the Free State of Bavaria must be involved.


Information for professionally qualified persons:

Qualified professionals without a school-based university entrance qualification, but with two years of training and three years of work experience, are granted a subject-related right of access. Their field of study must correspond approximately to their previous professional specialisation.
The counselling interview

Admission requirements for master craftsmen or similarly qualified and skilled workers is a consultation with a study advisor of the intended study programme. The written confirmation of this counselling interview must be enclosed with the application to the respective universities or submitted by 27.07. at the latest. The counselling interview certified by a Bavarian university will be recognised by another university if it is a closely related study programme.

In this interview, the applicant should be given a realistic impression of the contents, structure and requirements of the intended course of study, possibly also of an existing university entrance examination. The aim of the interview is to enable the applicant to critically assess whether he/she will be able to meet the requirements of a course of study based on his/her previous knowledge.

 

 

If you have completed military service, alternative service or other service you will be given preferential admission if you have been admitted to a course of study at the beginning or during your service, and:

  • You have not passed admission restrictions or
  • There were restrictions on admission, but your applicantion was admitted

In order to be entitled to preferential admission, you must re-apply to the university after the end of your service with all documents in due time and form.

This application must also be accompanied by a provisional certificate of employment (officially certified) and a copy of the previous admission notice. With the preferential admission you will receive a new study place after the end of your service.

 

 

If you are an applicant who has already completed  studies at a German university or you will graduate by the end of July, you may only be admitted to admission-restricted degree programmes within the framework of a special quota of 4% of the study places.

If you do not have your first degree certificate by the end of July, you will not be included in the quota for second degree applicants.

 

 

Language requirements differ depending on your chosen course and the language of instruction.

  • Find details of language requirements on our application page.
  • Duolingo English certificates will NOT be accepted
  • It is not required to provide an APS certificate if you are already in Europe. Instead, you should upload your residence permit in the application portal.
  • You can still apply with your IELTS certificate if your overall score is within the range of the language requirements.

As described in the documents, the following people DO NOT have to provide an English language certificate:

  • Holder of a German university entrance qualification (Abitur, Fachhochschulreife etc. obtained either in Germany or at a German school abroad) with English as a graduating subject (ATTENTION: This exemption from verification applies only to B2 level; a German university entrance qualification does not exempt from C1 verification!) 
  • Proof of completed degree programme conducted in English
  • Proof of at least one year of studies at a university in an English speaking country 
  • Holder of a graduation certificate of a school in an English speaking country

 

 

We do offer a preparatory course for German. It is called Let’s Get Started.

This is a preparatory semester for international applicants, who have a university entrance qualification, but an insufficient level of German for the admission to a German-based degree course. It is possible to obtain the required level of the German language with the Test-Daf examination, which can be taken at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology at the end of the Let’s Get Started program.
The preparatory course prepares students especially for technical courses of studies, but students that wish to study in a different course of study can participate as well. To be able to register for the program, the candidates should have a university entrance qualification and at least a B1 level of German language proficiency. The preparatory semester always starts in the summer semester (March) of every year. For detailed information, please view our flyer. You can apply online for the preparatory semester.

 

The necessary documents must be translated into English or German and these documents should be legally certified translated documents with a stamp/a seal of the authority person.  It does not need to be legalised by the Embassy.

 

Unfortunately, our university cannot help you with this process. For the further information about the blocked account, please ask to the Embassy in your home country.

 

It is not necessary to start looking for an accommodation before getting an admission. However, to secure one of the affordable apartments, we recommend applying for an accommodation at the earliest date possible (at least 3 months before the beginning of the rental period) when you know your move-in date.

 

Yes, you can, if your university entrance qualification documents are correct and complete. Please note that your parents must sign the following document. You will have to upload this during the application process.

You have decided on a degree programme and the application period has started? Don't delay - applications are only accepted during the application period.

To apply, follow the steps below:

1. Register on the Primuss portal

2. Select the degree programme

3. Enter your personal data, details of previous education and, if applicable, previous studies into the system. If you are applying for a bachelor's programme

4. Upload the following documents

  • University entrance qualification
  • Copy of your identity card
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proof of language proficiency, if applicable
  • Certificate of exmatriculation, if you have already studied
  • Only for applicants to a joint degree programme or a degree programme with in-depth practical experience: contract with a company
  • For Master's degree applicants only: bachelor's degree certificate and grade sheet

The complete list of documents will be available in the Primuss Portal during the application period. The list will be generated individually depending on the information entered by you and the programme you are selecting.

5. Submit the application and regularly check the application status in Primuss and correct the uploaded documents if necessary

6. You will receive a letter of acceptance or rejection

We have a very high number of applicants, and checking every individual application can take some time. If you have applied correctly and your application is fully checked, the centre for studies will inform you about admission. Individual applications cannot be processed faster due to organizational reasons.

It is generally possible to change your course at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. However, you must be aware that:

  • A timely online application for the new course is required
  • Admission for first semester students is based on a local selection procedure
  • Admission to higher semesters is possible if there are places available and all requirements according to the respective study and exam regulations are fulfilled

The study and exam achievements are checked during the enrolment procedure and credited to your new course, if suitable.

Changing university in Bavaria is unproblematic in the same course of studies. However, a timely application for enrolment or admission to the host university and de-registration with the Deggendorf Institute of Technology must be observed.

A change from a Bavarian university to a non-Bavarian university or vice versa, however, will in most cases pose problems. In addition to the recognition of the university entrance qualification, the recognition of study periods and completed exams can also cause difficulties due to the different curricula and the different exam regulations.

After passing the Bachelor's examination, graduates of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology are entitled to transfer to a university, university of the arts or comprehensive university without restriction to one subject area.

The individual requirements for enrolment in a subject area at the university in question remain unaffected.

Vacant study places are awarded to applicants who have received a notice of rejection in the main application procedure. Places will be allocated until all the course is full, which can take until the end of October. A lottery procedure is not carried out at Bavarian universities.

 

To be able to study at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, the following requirements apply:

  •     General university entrance qualification
  •     or subject-related higher education entrance qualification
  •     or advanced technical college entrance qualification
  •     or subject-related advanced technical college entrance qualification
  •     or university entrance qualification for master craftsmen and qualified professionals
  •     if necessary, a pre-study internship

Certificates:

  • Certificates from outside Bavaria are considered as university entrance qualifications if they are/are recognised as equivalent to corresponding Bavarian certificates.
  • International applicants can check their eligibilty at the DAAD page and will find further information on the admission requirements and application as well as on the recognition of foreign certificates on the application page

Further documents

The documents listed below are not absolutely necessary for processing your application, but they can significantly improve your chances of being admitted:

  • Certificate of exmatriculation (only required for enrolment if you are changing universities)
  • Proof of study and examination achievements already achieved

Application for admission to the second degree course:

  • Copy of the diploma of the first degree
  • Informal, detailed, written justification for the second degree
  • Copy of the university entrance qualification

Where applicable, copied certificates of service:

  • Military service or service with the Federal Border Guard for up to three years
  • Federal voluntary service and other service abroad
  • A voluntary social year or a voluntary ecological year
  • A minimum of two years' service as a development aid worker
  • Care or nursing of a child under 18 or other relative in need of care up to the age of three

If applicable, proof of completed vocational training or professional activity. The following vocational training is taken into account:

  • A completed apprenticeship in a recognised occupation
  • Vocational training at a state or state-recognised vocational school, technical school or university of cooperative education
  • A level of education which corresponds to completed training in simple and intermediate public administration
  • A passed NCO or officer's examination for professional or temporary soldiers

In the degree programmes of the local selection procedures, the waiting period is based on the number of semesters that have passed since the acquisition of the higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Fachhochschulreife).

However, an applicant may have circumstances for which he/she is not responsible, but which have delayed the acquisition of the higher education entrance qualification. The applicant will then have less waiting time. In this case, the selection according to waiting time can be based on an earlier date of acquisition of the entitlement to study, if the applicant applies for this and provides corresponding evidence. The applicant thus participates in the selection with a waiting time which he/she would probably have achieved without the delay.

Here, too, proof of the reason (illness) is not sufficient for the application to be recognised. You must additionally prove that this incriminating circumstance has delayed the acquisition of the entitlement to study; e.g. by a certificate from your school about the reason and duration of the delay.

Yes, absolutely!
The admission is only valid for the semester for which you have applied. 

 

The notification of admission is provided to you by the applicant portal. You will not receive a paper copy by post. Please be sure to keep this notification carefully and save it in case you need it to present it to the authorities in the next few years. Duplicates cannot be issued.

 

''Confirmation of Duration of Study'' document means that the proof of study and

examination achievements you already achieved in your previous studies regardless of if you have finished your study or not.

 

You can find more information about the assessment test on the specific programme website. If you don’t find any sample questions on the website, there are no sample questions. 

For further information, please contact the person responsible for your program at the Centre for Studies: Centre for Studies | DIT or to the course assistant of your programme at the faculties (you can find the contact information under the ‘’Contact’’ section): Faculties.

 

You do not need to convert any grades. Please input your grades from your home country in the application portal. The admission team will review/evaluate your transcripts of records or grade sheet and they will convert your grades into the German grade system by themselves.

 

The exam will take place after the application period ends on July 15, so that every applicant can be invited to it.

 

If you receive university entrance qualification outside of Germany, please choose ‘’ Higher education entrance qualification acquired outside of Germany’’. If you finished your GCE A-levels, please choose ‘’ Subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification’’.

No. Each application and admission procedure stands on its own. 

Of course, you should think carefully about which admission offer you accept - because with procedures that run via hochschulstart.de, you irrevocably lose all other admission offers that you may still have in parallel with your decision.
At the next application deadline, however, each procedure starts fresh from the beginning.

 

We have rejected your photo if it does not meet our requirements.

Please upload a photo again according to the specifications of the Bundesdruckerei (biometric). The photo must be in JPG or JPEG format and must not be larger than 12 MB.

Whether you are a regular or exchange student, the most important and yet cheapest insurance you need in Germany is the liability insurance, which we strongly recommend as it insures you againstvdamage caused to third parties or the property of third parties. Apart from this, all students require health insurance incase of any accident, illness or emergency.

In some Bachelor's programmes, a pre-course internship is an admission requirement:

  • Civil engineering: Preliminary practical training on a building site
    The aim of the pre-study internship is to gain practical experience on construction sites. This is to form the basis for a practice-oriented education in the course of studies. The pre-study internship must be completed as a practical commercial activity on construction sites in the main building trade; e.g. building construction: formwork, reinforcement, concreting, walls, etc. or civil engineering / road construction: earthworks, pipeline construction, asphalt works, etc.
  • Mechanical engineering: The pre-study internship should preferably be completed in an industrial company (e.g. from the fields of mechanical engineering, vehicle construction or production). The pre-study interns should gain practical experience in various machining methods and production processes, such as turning, milling, grinding, drilling. In addition, it would be advantageous if the pre-study intern could gain a small insight into the working environment of an engineer (e.g. in the departments of production, assembly, work preparation or design).
  • Mechatronics: The pre-study internship should preferably be completed in an industrial company (e.g. in the fields of electrical or mechanical engineering). The pre-study interns should gain practical experience in various mechanical or electronic methods as well as manufacturing processes, such as turning, milling, grinding, drilling, soldering. Furthermore, it would be advantageous if the pre-study intern could get a small insight into the working environment of an engineer (e.g. in the departments of production, plant engineering, assembly, e-planning, work preparation or design).
  • Industrial engineering: In the field of technology or economics
    This means that every applicant who has NOT undergone any practical training in a specific field or who changes his or her field of study after completing the technical secondary school must, in principle, complete a pre-study internship of at least 6 weeks prior to commencing studies.

Exceptions:

If you have acquired your university entrance qualification at the Fachoberschule/Berufsoberschule, you do not need a pre-study internship.

If you are doing a dual course of study (studies with in-depth practical experience or combined studies), you also do not need a pre-study internship.

The pre-study internship is also not required if you apply for a course of study in the respective field of study via the university entrance qualification Professionally Qualified & Master Craftsmen/Technicians.

In the Industrial Engineering & Management course of study, the pre-study internship can be waived if you acquired your university entrance qualification at a technical college/vocational high school in the fields of technology or economics.

 

 

The time required for a course in the semester is indicated in SWS and the credits earned in ECTS.

Semester hours per week (SWS)

An SWS describes the time spent on a course during the semester. For example, "1 SWS" means that the corresponding lecture is scheduled to last 45 minutes per week for the duration of the semester.

European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

ECTS credits ensure that all of your study achievements at European universities are comparable and can be credited across borders if you change universities.

 

 

The right to compensation for disadvantages for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses is firmly anchored in the Higher Education Framework Act. A compensation for disadvantages is intended to prevent discrimination or disadvantage caused by disability and to support students with disabilities or chronic illness in the admission and implementation of their studies as well as to enable a smooth participation in university life.


Compensation for disadvantages to improve the average grade

The average grade is an essential selection criterion for the allocation of study places. Therefore, performance impairments which have prevented an applicant from achieving a better average grade when acquiring the right to study (e.g. entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences) should be compensated. If such circumstances and their effects are proven, the application for admission with an improved average grade can be included in the award procedure under certain conditions.

Reasoned applications

In the following cases, which are given as examples, a request to improve the average grade can generally be granted:

  • Special social or health circumstances of the applicant
  • Prolonged absence from education due to illness during the last three years before obtaining the university entrance qualification (specialist medical opinion)
  • Severely handicapped of 50 or more percent (severely handicapped pass or notice of assessment from the pension office)
  • Prolonged serious illness of the applicant, unless covered by the above-mentioned points, or comparable special health circumstances (specialist medical opinion)
  • Pregnancy of the applicant during the last three years before obtaining the university entrance qualification (specialist medical certificate or birth certificate of the child)
  • Particular economic circumstances of the applicant (documents suitable as evidence)
  • Moving to the Federal Republic of Germany

Special family circumstances:

  • Care of own underage children, siblings or relatives in need of care (in ascending line) in the last three years before acquisition of the university entrance qualification, if other persons were not available for care (birth certificates of the child(ren) in connection with suitable proof that other persons were not available for the childcare - e.g. certificate of the social office or proof of the need for care)
  • Loss of one parent in the last three years before acquiring the university entrance qualification, provided that the applicant was single at that time and had not yet reached the age of 25 (death certificate of the parents and declaration of marital status at that time).
  • Multiple changes of school in the last three years before acquiring the university entrance qualification due to relocation of parents (applicant's leaving certificate and parents' registration certificate)
  • Membership of the A, B or C squad of the national sports federations of at least one year's continuous duration during the last three years before acquiring the university entrance qualification (certificate from the responsible national sports federation)

 

Unsubstantiated requests

In the following cases, an application is generally unsuccessful:

  • Work during school hours in the parental household, business or company
  • Parental illness
  • Loss of parent or other close relative prior to the acquisition of a university entrance qualification
  • Parental quarrel or divorce
  • Parents moving before the last three years before obtaining the university entrance qualification

Entitlement to compensation for disadvantages
The framework examination regulations for universities of applied sciences (RaPO) of 17 October 2007, last amended by the ordinance of 6 August 2010, can be found in §5 paragraph 1 sentence 1:
"Students who are not able to take an examination in whole or in part in the intended form due to a disability shall be granted compensation for disadvantages to the extent that this is necessary to create equal opportunities."

Forms of compensation for disadvantages
A compensation for disadvantages can, for example, include (see also §5 para. 1 sentence 2 RaPO)

  • Reasonable extension of exam time
  • Written exams taken in oral form
  • Approval of additional work and auxiliary equipment (e.g. computers, screen readers)
  • Modification of audit tasks in an appropriate form

Application for compensation of disadvantages
Any compensation for disadvantages must be requested in writing. The request should be made at the latest when registering for the examination (§5 (2) RaPO).

The disability must be substantiated by presenting a medical certificate. Pursuant to §5 (3) sentence 2 half-sentence 1 RaPO, the Examination Committee determines what information the medical certificate must contain.

The application must contain the following:

  • Written request to the clerk at the Office of Student Affairs
  • Confirmation of the physician attesting to the restriction
  • If applicable: occurrence and expected duration of the disability

 

 

The term accreditation (lat. accredere, to give credence) is used in various areas to describe the fact that one generally recognised body certifies to another that a particular (useful) quality has been fulfilled. In higher education, accreditation is one of the tools of quality assurance. The core of the procedure is the assessment of the quality of e.g. a study programme by experts (independent teachers and students from other universities as well as representatives of professional practice).

Accreditation pursues the following objectives, especially in the higher education sector:

    To ensure the quality of teaching and studies in order to contribute to faculty development;
    increase student mobility;
    improve international comparability of degrees (nota bene: accreditation does not in itself guarantee international recognition);
    make it easier for students, employers and universities to find their way around the newly introduced bachelor's and master's programmes;
    increase the transparency of the study programmes.
